A Total War game based on Star Wars is reportedly in development. Creative Assembly is said to be working on the Star Wars game alongside two other Total War titles, although it's not said which one of these will launch first.
This was first reported by DualShockers, who say that a reliable source has provided them with information on the next three Total War games. The big surprise here is that one of them will apparently be themed around Star Wars, bringing the setting to the strategy genre.
If this report is accurate, then it would be quite the departure from the usual licenced Star Wars games we get. For the most part, developers have stuck with real-time action, honing in on the fast-paced combat of Star Wars. However, given how many wide galactic conflicts take place in Star Wars, it's a good fit for a strategy game too, so it could work nicely in the Total War series.
Total War developer Creative Assembly hasn't confirmed that any of these three games exist just yet, but given how frequently new titles launch in this series, it's safe to assume that some kind of follow-up is in the works. We'll just have to wait and see if one of them really is a new licenced Star Wars game.
Of course, this rumoured release only became possible in the last couple of years. As many Star Wars fans will remember - albeit not fondly - EA had Star Wars exclusivity for ten years. This limited the kind of game adaptations we got from 2013 to 2023. Now, we have a range of titles in the works, with Star Wars: Eclipse, Star Wars Outlaws, a KOTOR Remake (well, maybe), and a sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Soon, we might even be adding a Total War game into the mix, diversifying the series even further.
If a Total War Star Wars game is in the works, it remains to be seen when it will be confirmed. However, we're rapidly approaching showcase season in the summer, so Creative Assembly will have plenty of opportunities to make the announcement.
