Many of 's best side quests feature some unexpected plot twists, but one otherwise exciting mission is actually spoiled before players even have the chance to participate. As soon as V receives the quest «I Fought The Law» from Elizabeth Peralez over the holo, one clue gives its ending away to those who pick up on a not-so-subtle reference therein.
Currently, the «I Fought the Law» mission is one of few that explores the law enforcement side of Night City, but before long, players will be able to work for the NUSA itself in 's DLC. Alongside the return of Johnny Silverhand and new character Solomon Reed (who is played by famous English actor Idris Elba), V will become a top-secret government operative in what is seemingly CDPR's biggest expansion so far. Until then, players will have to make do with River Ward's quest line and NCPD scanner hustles — but with 's «I Fought The Law» mission being preemptively spoiled, the pickings could seem slim.

Like many of 's quests, «I Fought The Law» is a reference to a song of the same title, which was written by the Crickets and later popularized by the Bobby Fuller Four and The Clash. The catchy rock tune is most memorable for its chorus, which goes, "" Those who are familiar with the song and its message may have taken the same, distrustful approach to the quest, and in doing so, they may have predicted its outcome.
