The Apple Arcade service is one of the best values in gaming due to the sheer variety of what’s offered and the quality of its library – in a lot of ways, it’s what I always envisioned the OUYA’s lineup to be with a blend of mobile games that play great with controllers and a mix of other titles. Today, Apple added over 20 games to the service – including six of those games coming to Apple TV devices.
Mobile players have a greater variety of games available to them than those using MacOS or Apple TV devices, with games like Disney Coloring World+ and Chess Universe+ available, while users of non-mobile devices still have a good amount of new titles to look forward to. The biggest one is easily TMNT Splintered Fate, a Diablo-esque adventure starring the Turtles as they search for Splinter.
There’s also a pleasant surprise in the form of Cityscapes: Sim Builder joining the lineup as this is a time sink of a game with a lot of depth on a service that is usually used for bite-size adventures, but offers up a lot of fun to be had and works fine on Apple TV – but would probably play a bit more naturally on an iPad with its large icons. What the Car? joins the fray as a bizarre racing adventure to go alongside the service’s existing Club Unlimited, Asphalt 8+, the Split/Second-esque Detonation Racing, and Horizon Chase 2 offerings.
This is an incredible update overall and even those just playing on Apple TV devices can get a lot of enjoyment out of the service. A third-generation Apple TV with 128GB of storage is one of the best values in gaming at $150 for the hardware and then $5 a month for Apple Arcade. It pairs up perfectly with a Dual Shock 4, Dual Sense, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Switch Pro or even KingKong 2 Pro controller
