The launch of The Last of Us: Part I on PC has not gone as smoothly as Naughty Dog would have been hoping as the port has garnered «mostly negative» reviews on Steam. This is due to constant crashes and poor in-game performance rather than the quality of the actual game. Naughty Dog itself handled the PC port and has confirmed it's investigating reported issues, requesting users to submit support tickets on its website.
Of more than 3,200 Steam user reviews, 67 per cent land on the negative side, reporting the aforementioned issues with performance. Some verified purchasers of the PC port claim their copy crashes every 20 minutes while others complain about bad optimization. Building shaders is also a source of frustration for many.
Earlier in the day, Naughty Dog put out a blog post detailing the work that's gone into the PC version of The Last of Us: Part I. «Now that we accomplished releasing the remake on PS5, we are thrilled to bring this game, not just to PC but for PC,» it claimed. With so many negative reviews at launch from users, though, it's clear something isn't quite right under the hood on PC.
Despite all these issues, the developer is doubling down on joint PS5 and PC development: «Sharing our stories and experiences on PS5 as well as PC is something that Naughty Dog has embraced and will continue to support moving forward.» It would come as no surprise for The Last of Us Multiplayer to launch on both platforms day and date with each other, so the studio will want to get these teething problems cleaned up steadfastly.
