The Blockiest Indie Platformer MMO Super Cube 3D Just Released on Steam
mmorpg.comThere are a lot of strange MMOs out there, and to throw one more onto the pile, Super Cube 3D just released on Steam. The game is a party platformer, where players take on the guide of blocks and hop along against increasingly difficult challenges.
Steam is a wealth of quirky little Indie MMOs, which we often outline each week in our Indie MMO Spotlight articles, but here’s a quick hit on StreetWare Studios Super Cube 3D which found its way to launch on Steam this week. Super Cube 3D can be played solo, or as an MMO with dozens of other players.
There are mazes and races to complete, and you can coordinate with other blocks with the in-game chat. While the game does profess its ability as an MMO, stating that it can handle “hordes of players” the extremely niche nature of the game has resulted on no more than 4 players online during their peak so far. According to player reviews, the game itself can be completed in about a day’s worth of playing, marking the limited nature of the current content.
However, the game thus far has a series of positive reviews as of this article, but it’s still to early to tell how the game will live up to player expectations. Post Steam launch the developer at Streetware Studio has been fixing bugs, building out new content, and has been working on an Android port of the game. While the game will most certainly not be for everyone, and those looking for a healthy MMO platforming population may want to hold off until the game matures and the Mobile players start to jump in, if you’re a puzzle and platforming gamer, you might want to keep your eye on this one.
