A lot has changed since Street Fighter V hit the scene in early 2016. The game aimed to be a value-packed proposition with premium currency being able to be earned in the game and thus theoretically allowing someone to enjoy everything the game had to offer for years to come without paying for more than the base game. Later, upgraded versions would bring new outfits and season passes to the mix while increasing value for new players. It was the first PlayStation-exclusive entry in the series for consoles and that led to a somewhat splintered fanbase as the entire Xbox audience was shutout, but it did lead to an increase in the series’ presence on PC.
Capcom announced Street Fighter 6 at The Game Awards in 2022 and immediately gave hope to the fanbase that was burned by the fifth mainline entry by announcing that it would be on Xbox alongside PlayStation and PC. As time has gone on, we have seen more information come out with a revamped approach to not only the series – but fighting games as a whole to make the experience better-replicate a genuine arcade experience. It’s something that has been seen in games before, but never to this degree. There is also far more world-building here than in any prior SF game and pretty much any SF-canon game yet including the Final Fight series.
