Mega Man X Dive has been a free to play mobile and PC game via Steam for a long time, and one that felt like a natural extension of the Maverick Hunter remake of the original Mega Man X on the PSP. That game was pretty much a 1:1 retelling of the first game’s story with new story beats added in for detail thanks to cinematics, while Mega Man X Dive offered up a lot of the X series stages in a very PSP-like art style. It very much evoked a high-definition version of what a continued PSP remake series might look like.
Being free to play, it had a lot of gacha elements in it – but the core gameplay was a lot of fun. I primarily used either X or Zero, but a lot of characters were playable and it was interesting to play as Zero in a polygonal art style but with a wide variety of X stages available. It is a best of the X series, but with far more characters playable than any mainline X game and felt like a dream game in some ways. The core action was a riot, but the free-to-play elements got in the way a bit.
Thankfully, upon the announcement of the mobile and PC game ending support, Capcom announced today that Mega Man X Dive Offline will be released. It’s very similar to the mobile Castlevania game being taken down from app stores and then revamped for Apple Arcade devices – only seemingly not being available on that service, but instead on PC. There’s a lot we don’t yet know about it because they may choose to release it there down the line, but it should at least be coming to the devices that Mega Man X Dive left – which would be mobile phones and PC, and it will launch in 2023.
