Tom Cruise Will Be Out Of This World (Literally) In His Next Movie

Tom Cruise and his Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman are set to collaborate on an unprecedented movie endeavor in space, where Cruise will become the first civilian to perform a spacewalk. Universal is backing the film, which has a budget of around $200 million, as reported by Variety.

During the premiere of Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part 1 in New York, Cruise said he didn't have a production start date set, but mentioned that they have been working diligently on the space-set movie. Before moving forward with his next project, Cruise still needs to finish making Dead Reckoning Part 2. Writer and director Christopher McQuarrie, overseeing both Dead Reckoning movies, confirmed that he and Cruise will resume work on Part 2 as soon as the Part 1 press tour ends.

The latest installment of the Mission: Impossible series, opening in theaters this week, pits Cruise's IMF agent Ethan Hunt against a mysterious villain from his past, reuniting him with allies Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg), Luther Stickell (Ving Rhames), and Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson). However, one of the notable features of any Mission: Impossible movie is its impressive stunts, and Dead Reckoning Part 1 is no exception. In a daring sequence, Cruise skillfully maneuvers a motorcycle off a cliff and gracefully descends using a parachute. When questioned about this scene during the filming process, Cruise downplayed it as just a «usual day.» There's another stunt that necessitated building a train and then destroying it.
