But a laser-targeted launch, aimed specifically at enthusiasts, and speculation that the headset may not be off to the best possible start has raised question marks about the feasibility of the peripheral’s future. Jim Ryan, PlayStation’s overarching bigwig, believes it’s too early to draw any conclusions.
“PSVR2 has just been launched, so it may be a little early to judge its popularity, but we are happy to see many positive reactions from users and the media,” he said as part of a wide-ranging interview with Japanese publication Famitsu, per Google Translate. “I just listed some of the compatible titles, but more than 40 titles have been released around the launch of PSVR2. In addition, there are many titles ahead of us in 2023 and beyond. We will continue to push forward so that those who purchase PSVR2 can enjoy it for a long time and we can also secure profits.”

There’s really not a lot to glean from this answer, but if we were to read between the lines, it sounds like the platform holder is pretty confident about its ability to sell PSVR2 software – irrespective of how small the install base may be. This perhaps tallies with the market response to the original PSVR, because it was widely reported that the attach rate to Sony’s first headset was incredibly high; in other words, people who bought the peripheral also purchased a lot of games.
