No, Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead Game Studios isn't being purchased by PlayStation.
That's what Arrowhead's CEO and Creative Director on Helldivers 2, Johan Pilestedt, has confirmed on X just now. Yesterday, rumors about Sony purchasing the Swedish independent developer surfaced after a 'leaker' claimed that the studio has already been bought by Sony. In addition, the leaker claimed that an announcement would follow shortly. This 'leaker' is the same person who initially claimed that Sony would soon be confirming the PC version of Ghost of Tsushima - a claim that was later backed by insider Shpeshal Nick.
On X, however, Pilestedt has now said that this rumor is fake. "This is the first I hear of this... And that's a good indication that it's fake", he wrote on X.
Interestingly enough, the initial post from the leaker has since been deleted alongside his/her X account. Although we don't know the reason for the X user deleting his/her entire X account, it could be due to community backlash.
Founded in 2008, Arrowhead Game Studios is known for titles such 2011's Magicka, 2013's The Showdown Effect, 2014's Gauntlet, and of course, the Sony-published Helldivers entries from 2015 and 2024. As most of you will know, Helldivers 2 has been an amazing success for the studio, selling over 3 million copies since launch and becoming the biggest launch for any PlayStation-published title PC. Due to the game's insane success, Arrowhead has gradually increased the CCU server cap for the game, most recently increasing the cap to 700.000 players across both PlayStation 5 and PC.
As covered over the week, Arrowhead will likely soon be adding vehicles to the game alongside Mechs. A recent datamine has suggested that players will soon also be getting access to Meteors, new weapons, biomes, stratagems, status effects, customization, gear bonuses, and much more.
We'll update you as soon as more
