Sega has found a great deal of success with the Sonic the Hedgehog movies, and that train is going to keep chugging along. Paramount Pictures announced back in 2022 that a third film in the franchise had been officially greenlit, and ahead of its release later this year, the movie has wrapped up filming. The same was confirmed by its director Jeff Fowler in a recent tweet.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will see Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles returning for another adventure, with Jim Carrey’s Dr. Robotnik once again starring as the antagonist. Meanwhile, as teased in Sonic the Hedgehog 2’s post-credits scene, Shadow the Hedgehog will also have an important role to play, with the movie drawing inspiration from 2001’s Sonic Adventure 2, and 2005’s Shadow the Hedgehog.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3’s worldwide theatrical release is set for December 20. Meanwhile, under a month from now, on April 26, the six-episode miniseries Knuckles will also be premiering on Paramount+.
