For a while now, the identity of Shadow the Hedgehog's voice actor in the upcoming Sonic movie has been a complete mystery, with Paramount and Sega happy to let that mystery sit to drum up excitement around the movie. Actors such as Hayden Christensen, Robert Pattinson, Christian Bale, and many other edgy actors were banded around for the role, but it looks like The Matrix and John Wick star Keanu Reeves has landed the role.
This is according to Canadian YouTuber and film critic John Campea, who has claimed on the latest episode of the aptly titled John Campea Show that he was told by someone during CinemaCon last week that Reeves is the actor in the role. Campea goes on to state that if he told you the person who told him this information, you'd "believe it too", but he ran the rumor by someone else who was apparently surprised he knew before telling him that "yeah, it is" Keanu Reeves.
Campea doesn't reveal his sources of information, but his claim was soon backed up by The Hollywood Reporter, which has claimed multiple sources have confirmed that Reeves will play Shadow. While it has no more info than Campea, it says that the details were likely shared during the movie's CinemaCon showing, which also revealed that Jim Carrey's reprisal of Dr. Robotnik will have a more game-accurate design this time around.
While Reeves has admitted that he doesn't actually play games, not even the ones he's been in, we all know he has all the attributes of a great voice actor and the ability to Crush 40 the role. For starters, working on massive franchises The Matrix and John Wick helps out a bit, while his time as Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077 shows that he hs the skills to be a great voice actor.
