is packed full of great characters who the party can meet and help throughout the course of the epic fantasy story. One that plays an important role across all three acts is Rolan, a tiefling wizard who initially comes across as very arrogant and unlikeable. However, if he is kept alive throughout, Rolan can become a valuable ally and help towards achieving “Leave No One Behind”.
There are a few different for Rolan to die during the game, but with careful planning, it can become easier to keep him around all the way through to the end of . Rolan appears in each act of the story and must be found in each new area and spoken to in order to progress his unmarked personal quest. As his story unfolds, Rolan slowly begins to change and grow as a person, a far cry from the self-centered young tiefling the party first encounters.
Rolan is first met in Act 1 with his siblings, Cal and Lia, in Druid Grove and can be found just a little further down from Arron the trader. Rolan and Lia will be in the middle of an argument about whether they should stay and help their fellow tiefling refugees, with Cal unsuccessfully trying to mediate.
Joining the conversation, the dialogue option: should be chosen, which is a DC 10 Persuasion check. If the check fails, there is also the option to bribe Rolan into staying.
Tiefling, Paladin, or Ranger characters all have unique dialogue options here that bypass the need for the skill check.
Rolan can be spoken to afterward, and he will explain that he's in such a hurry to get to Baldur's Gate because he's going to become the apprentice to the famous wizard Lorroakan. If Gale is in the party, he has some interesting dialogue that casts doubt on Rolan's version of his new mentor.
At the end of Act 1, with the goblins defeated, Rolan will be at the party with the rest of the tiefling refugees entertaining his siblings with a magic show.
