Weapon Oils are making a return in The War Within, adding another consumable to the list that players will want to manage in order to bring out the best in their characters.
Last seen in Shadowlands, Weapon Oils have taken several forms throughout the lifespan of World of Warcraft. Originating all the way back in Vanilla with classics such as Wizard Oil and Superior Mana Oil, Oils traditionally have been consumables that give just a bit more power to players right where it counts.
Over time, Oils evolved from simple stat bonuses to more interesting effects, such as Shadowcore Oil allowing for an additional damage proc when attacking. The Oils in The War Within are a bit of everything — some are simple stat boosters, while others allow for additional damaging or healing effects.
The biggest difference, however, is that these are now Enchanting crafts, not Alchemy — so make sure you're looking at the correct profession if you're attempting to place work orders.
Not all players may welcome the return of Weapon Oils, however. The list of consumables, enchants, and gems needed for a raid-ready (or PvP, or Mythic + ready) character has been steadily ballooning over time, and many players expressed annoyance at having to micro-manage their buffs constantly.
