Arrowhead Game Studios is currently investigating an issue with Helldivers 2 crashes that many players have been reporting in late March. The studio suspects the problem to be related to the latest Helldivers 2 patch, as well as select weapons.
The Swedish developer has been working overtime to push out updates for its co-op shooter ever since the game launched to great success in early February. And while Helldivers 2 suffered from crashes from day one, the initial wave of those issues was addressed in less than two weeks, largely by Arrowhead raising the game's server capacity to keep up with the overwhelming traffic, which it labeled as the root cause of its early-day instability.
But similar problems have cropped up yet again in late March, with an Arrowhead representative subsequently taking to the game's Discord server to acknowledge the fact that «a lot of crashes» are happening at the moment. Aside from confirming that the developer was investigating the situation, the official revealed that Arrowhead suspects the problem to be related to the Helldivers 2 update that rolled out on March 20.
In a March 21 follow-up, a different company official wrote that the team had identified the root cause of the crashes and is currently in the process of putting together a fix. The patch meant to resolve the issue is planned to roll out «early next week.»
This status update did not offer any additional clarification on whether the crashes were indeed caused by the March 20 patch. However, Arrowhead did find that the game currently has a tendency to freeze when using the Helldivers 2 Arc Shotgun, Arc Thrower, or Tesla Tower. The players are hence advised against doing so until the developer deploys the upcoming fix.
Helldivers 2 players are advised not to use the Arc Shotgun, Arc Thrower, or Tesla Tower, which seem to be somehow related to the crashes, until Arrowhead deploys its fix next week.
