Just a day after Jonathan Kent was cast for the upcoming DC Studios movie, the actress who will be playing Martha Kent has also been revealed.
According to The Wrap, Neva Howell will be playing the role of Clark Kent’s adoptive mother Martha Kent in James Gunn’s Superman. Howell has previously appeared in films like October Sky, Novitiate, and Logan Lucky.
Martha has previously been played by quite a few actresses, including Diane Lane throughout the DCEU, Eva Marie Saint in Superman Returns, Phyllis Thaxter in the 1978 Superman film, and Annette O’Toole in the Smallville television series.
The titular role in Superman is being played by David Corenswet (Pearl, The Politician), while Lois Lane will be played by The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star Rachel Brosnahan. They’re joined by Nicholas Hoult, Skyler Gisondo, María Gabriela De Faría, Sara Sampaio, Isabela Merced, Nathan Fillion, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, and more. The superhero movie is set to release theatrically on July 11, 2025.
“Superman tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas,” reads the movie’s official synopsis. “He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
