Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa has confirmed that the company will be announcing the Switch successor, currently dubbed Switch 2, before April 2025.
Nintendo released its most recent financial earnings for its fiscal year that ended on March 31 earlier today and on X, Furukawa confirmed that Nintendo will be announcing a Switch successor within this fiscal year. With the current fiscal year running through March 31, 2024, this means that the new hardware will be confirmed in the upcoming eleven months. Although no more exact date was provided, recent rumors suggest that Nintendo is targeting an early 2025 release for the Switch 2. In addition to confirming the existence of a Switch successor, the executive also confirmed a new Nintendo Direct for next month. During this broadcast, however, there will be no mention of the Switch 2.
The executive wrote on X, "This is Furukawa, President of Nintendo. We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year. It will have been over nine years since we announced the existence of Nintendo Switch back in March 2015. We will be holding a Nintendo Direct this June regarding the Nintendo Switch software lineup for the latter half of 2024, but please be aware that there will be no mention of the Nintendo Switch successor during that presentation."
As said, Nintendo also released its most recent financial earnings, revealing that global Nintendo Switch sales have now surpassed 141.32 million units. This means that the company managed to sell another 2 million Switch units during its last quarter (January 2024 through March 2024).
