An unannounced Nintendo game has leaked under a codename called «Banquet.” This year is looking especially barren in terms of Nintendo game releases, so any rumors to show that more games are coming are particularly exciting to fans.
Previous Nintendo games such as Kirby, Mario Party, or even some Pokemon spin-off games have had similar food-related codenames. However, some of these games, like Kirby and the Forgotten Land, one of the best Kirby co-op games, had a non-food-related codename, like „Balloon15.” Another tidbit that shows this may not be a Kirby game is that Nintendo is developing it, while HAL Laboratories has historically made Kirby games with Nintendo as the publisher. Super Mario Party had a very similar codename with “Buffet.” It would make sense if “Banquet” was a follow-up name for Super Mario Party 2. Other Nintendo games, like recent Pokemon spin-offs developed by Creatures, have had some food-related names, like Detective Pikachu having the codename “Bakery” and Detective Pikachu Returns with the codename „Cornet.”
On May 6th, a credible leaker known as Midori tweeted that a game codenamed “Banquet” is in development at Nintendo. Midori has a proven track record when it comes to leaks, with some other recent leaks like a Persona 1 remake. The codename and it being developed by Nintendo are all that Midori has said about the unannounced game so far, with fans left to speculate about what it could be.
Midori has been one of the most reliable Sega leakers on Twitter. She’s been revealing Sega games like Sonic getting a Fall Guys-like spinoff this year, as well as several Persona-related updates. Midori has also mentioned several other games that could be coming to a Nintendo console, like a new Jet Set Radio, Crazy Taxi, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, and Shinobi.
Although Midori has a good track record, it’s usually best to take leaks with an ounce of speculation. Looking forward to new games can be fun, but taking leaks as a fact can sometimes end
