Screenshots of a hero shooter said to be in development at Valve, have leaked. This comes shortly after the first details on the game were shared online, potentially revealing its name: Deadlock.
This comes to us from the Valve reporter Gabe Follower, who's given us our first look at Deadlock gameplay and its characters. They describe Deadlock as being a "combination of Dota 2, Team Fortress 2, Overwatch, Valorant, Smite, [and] Orcs Must Die," as we can definitely see these influences in the screenshots.
As you can see above, this latest leak gives us a look at one of the characters said to feature in Deadlock. Grey Talon is depicted with a bow and arrow, but he's also described as using traps and poisons against enemies.
Valve is yet to confirm whether or not the leaked screenshots are legitimate, or if it's even working on a game called Deadlock, so it's worth taking this with a pinch of salt. However, we knew it was working on a game codenamed Neon Prime, which was initially rumoured to be a Dota 2 spin-off. This project is now said to have become Deadlock, although this is yet to be confirmed.
The Neon Prime trademark is no longer active. So, whatever Valve is cooking up must have undergone a name change by now, lending credibility to this Deadlock leak.
If these leaks do turn out to be legitimate though, then it's a good year for fans of the hero shooter genre. Marvel Rivals is also on the way, having been announced back in March. Like Deadlock, Marvel Rivals also offers 6v6, PvP, third-person gameplay, with a wide range of characters that sport unique abilities. It's in closed alpha testing until May 20, but we still don't know when it will be released to the wider public.
As for Deadlock, we'll have to wait and see when Valve is ready to share some details officially. For now, these few screenshots and an apparent name are all we have to go on.
