Blackbird Interactive and publisher Gearbox revealed 2024 roadmap on Wednesday. In addition to multiple free content drops, the roadmap reveals three paid DLCs that are introducing new factions to the sci-fi RTS.
The roadmap starts in June with a free update adding new challenges and artifacts, with Homeworld 3’s first paid DLC releasing in July. The latter adds a new playable faction, new starting fleets, a new faction emblem, and new faction artifacts and challenges. This sets the pattern for the rest of the roadmap, alternating between paid DLC and free content.
The second free update arrives for Homeworld 3 in August. In addition to introducing more artifacts and challenges, it adds new maps and a whole new star system. The second paid faction DLC will arrive in August, with more challenges, maps, and other free content in Q4. The pattern repeats again with a third faction DLC and a fourth free update in 2025.
The roadmap only talks in general terms, offering no specific information about the new factions. The first two games had only one playable faction, though Remaster made both enemy fleets playable in multiplayer. Homeworld 3 releases on May 13, and only the Hiigarans are confirmed to be playable at launch, as they were in the first two games. However, concept art also appears to show the Taiidan and Vaygr returning from previous installments.
Assuming they aren’t playable at launch, the Taiidan and Vaygr could be two of Homeworld 3’s DLC factions. However, at this point, that’s nothing but speculation.
