Valheim's latest patch is here, adding the all-new Ashlands biome. Ashlands comes with a whole lot of new content, ranging from new weapons, creatures, buildable items, locations, and events.
The update went live today and can be installed now. It comes as part of patch 0.218.15, which also adds a bunch of fixes and improvements to the indie survival game.
There's a lot induced in Valheim's Ashlands update, but here are a few features that the devs have highlighted in the patch notes:
Announcing the update, Valheim producer Andreas Tomasson says that the devs wanted to differentiate Ashlands from the previous biome, The Mistlands.
“We didn’t want to just release another biome but with fire instead of mist,” says Tomasson. "Ashlands is supposed to feel like a struggle, and players should expect a challenge. Every inch of territory you claim has to be earned, and every outpost has to be reinforced before you venture deeper. We’re entering endgame territory here, and players need to be ready for what comes in the Deep North."
Valheim is, of course, still in its early access period. It's been in early access since it first came to PC in 2021. During this time, it's been ported to Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S and can be played through Game Pass.
Valheim has been hugely successful from the start, although it remains to be seen when it's ready to fully launch. Right now, the website says that Valheim will be "ready when it’s ready", but the release of Ashlands at least brings us one step closer to the day that it leaves early access.
