Phil Spencer, the talkative head honcho of Xbox, has confirmed his company will be bringing more of its games to other platforms, like PS5. After its bemusing business meeting earlier in the year, the executive would only officially commit to four ports, all of which are already available: Sea of Thieves, Grounded, Pentiment, and Hi-Fi Rush. It’s since shuttered the studio behind the last title, alongside other fan favourite teams, such as Arkane Austin.
But quizzed by IGN in the aftermath of yesterday’s Xbox Showcase, the bigwig was a little more candid about his company’s plans: “Our commitment to our Xbox costumers is that you are going to get the opportunity to buy or subscribe to the game, we are going to support the game on other screens – and you are going to see more of our games on more platforms. And we just see that as a benefit to the franchises that we are building. And we see that from players, and the players love to be able to play.”
Rumours have been rife all year regarding which titles Microsoft will port to PS5 next, with no limits to the publisher’s plans, apparently. We’ve heard rumours regarding dozens of games, including everything from Gears of War to an alleged Halo remake. It’s telling, however, that apart from DOOM: The Dark Ages – which Spencer says was always planned for PS5 – there’s been no actual announcements about what to expect next.
On that front, we’re probably just going to have to wait for official word from the firm. Spencer is effectively saying here that more and more Xbox, Bethesda, and Activision games will be coming to PS5 – but until we know what they are and when they’ll be available, it’s still hard to get a solid read on the Redmond firm’s strategy.
