Along with revealing sales numbers for Helldivers 2, Sony announced that the PlayStation 5 has reached 59.3 million worldwide shipments as of March 31st, 2024. During the three months, it shipped 4.5 million consoles, up from 54.8 million in the last quarter but down from the same quarter of the previous year.
In total, 20.8 million units were shipped during the fiscal year, up by 1.7 million from last year but slightly down from Sony’s projected 21 million. The company noted that the console is approaching 60 million cumulative units in the same amount of time as the PS4, which had a price cut of $100 by now. Nevertheless, it expects sales during the current fiscal year to total 18 million.
Amid these milestones and forecasts are rumors of the PlayStation 5 Pro. Though there are concerns from developers who say it won’t grow the market, it’s rumored to launch this Fall (if the lack of first-party releases doesn’t push it to next year). Head here for more details on its specs. Sony could announce it during its rumored May showcase, so stay tuned for when that happens.
