The film stars Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu.
Álvarez co-wrote the screenplay for Alien: Romulus with Rodo Sayagues. He also serves as an executive producer alongside Elizabeth Cantillon, Brent O’Connor, and Tom Moran, while Ridley Scott, Michael Pruss, and Walter Hill serve as producers.
“The sci-fi/horror-thriller takes the phenomenally successful Alien franchise back to its roots: While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe,” the synopsis for the film reads.
The Alien franchise began in 1979 with the infamous Sigourney Weaver-starring film directed by Weaver. It was followed by 1986’s Aliens, 1992’s Alien3, and 1997’s Alien Resurrection before it then crossed over with the predator franchise in 2004’s Alien vs. Predator and 2007’s Alien vs. Predator: Requiem. Scott returned to the franchise in 2012 with Prometheus, which was followed by 2017’s Alien: Covenant.
Alien: Romulus releases in United States theaters on August 16, 2024, from 20th Century Studios.
