A recent Disney Dreamlight Valley lore drop from the latest update on Wednesday has left some fans uncomfortable and reflecting on their actions. It seems your favorite heroes like Mulan and Jack Skellington are stuck in the Valley and can’t return home.
Mallengar on Reddit posted a screenshot of a conversation with Mulan, one of the newest characters added to the Animal Crossing-like. Your main character out of nowhere drops a lore bomb. They explain to Mulan: “You can’t go back to your Realm without losing your memories again.”
If Mulan or Mushu ever want to return to China, they’ll forget everything about their journey. Some Redditers are shocked by this revelation. Mallengar compares it to a “gilded cage,” saying, “I can sort of understand why they can’t go back mechanically because of reasons; but for it to be this in the in-game lore is kind of horrifying if you think about it.”
Another user atruepear compared the concept of Disney Dreamlight Valley to Coraline, a book/film in which a child gets stuck in an alternate dimension and has trouble leaving her horrific new home.
In past sections of the story, it was revealed that the valley is a machination of your dream, and those who forgot this world are returning, remembering past adventures with your protagonist. The story’s deeper than you might think for a game like this.
These Disney characters aren’t from the films, they’re part of your imagination. Hopefully, that helps with comprehending that these heroes and villains are stuck inside your dimension with nowhere else to go. It’s still an odd thought, however.
