EA and Respawn have backtracked on some of the changes to Apex Legends battle pass system, so while the game will still be going ahead with now having two battle passes per season, players will once again be able to buy the Premium battle pass by using Apex Coins that are earned through the battle passes themselves.
Apex Legends Season 22 will have two battle passes over its 3 month runtime. Starting on 5th August and through to the mid-season ‘Split’ on 17th September, and then from 17th September through to the end of the season, there will be two smaller 60-level battle passes that should be easier to complete for players than the 110-level passes previously seen.
The originally announced change would also have done away with the ability to use premium Apex Coins currency to buy the premium passes. This has been a common mechanic for free-to-play games to keep player engagement high as they would rather play than pay for the premium cosmetics.
Backtracking will see Respawn restore this ability with Split 2, while the Split 1 pass will be unlocked by completing “simple in-game challenges”. Another change is that, where they had previously planned to double the number of Crafting Materials included with a battle pass to 2400, this has gone back to 1200.
