In a recent interview, Marvel Studios President gave an insight into the potential return of Tony Stark and Steve Rogers. These MCU mainstays announced their exit from the franchise in 2019 following their appearance in Avengers: Endgame. However, Feige’s latest comments suggested that a late comeback for the iconic duo might be possible.
Kevin Feige has stated that Hugh Jackman’s triumphant return as Wolverine could open the door for other former heroes to come back to the Marvel cinematic setup.
While talking to DiscussingFilm, the 51-year-old Disney executive lauded how Wolverine’s return was handled in Deadpool & Wolverine. He said, “That’s the key, right? How do you do it in a way that maintains what has come before, and in a great way? And we’ve been spending, you know, the last two-plus years figuring that out for Wolverine.”
Kevin Feige also commented that a similar blueprint could be followed in the future, hinting at the possible return of other Marvel heroes such as Iron Man and Captain America. He continued, “So, what’s to come? We’ll see.”
The X-Men associate producer then praised Jackman’s appearance in Deadpool’s first MCU outing. He stated, “We’re just proud that we, I think, have figured it out for Wolverine. I think Hugh’s appearance and starring role in [Deadpool & Wolverine] is a great sign that it can be done — if great care is taken.”
Jackman previously claimed that he would hang up his claws following 2017’s Logan. The Australian actor had said, “I knew it was going to be my last one way before we wrote it. I made that decision.” Nevertheless, he eventually changed his mind after Disney acquired 20th Century Fox in 2020. (via ComicBook.com)
