not only marked the entry of Ryan Reynolds’ Merc with a Mouth in the MCU but also introduced the concept of anchor beings. As per the movie, every world in the multiverse possesses a unique anchor being of its own. Following this revelation, a theory claiming Iron Man to be the anchor being of Earth-616 has started to take shape. Now, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has addressed this theory.
With the introduction of anchor beings in the multiverse, a popular theory states that Tony Stark was the anchor being on Earth-616, due to the sacrifice he made to defeat Thanos’ army. With his demise, the sacred timeline could be on track for its eventual destruction. Kevin Feige weighed in on this theory in a recent interview. But, he did not affirm or refute the claims.
Talking to ComicBook.com, Feige was asked if Iron Man was the anchor being of the sacred timeline mentioned in Deadpool & Wolverine. The Marvel President did not provide a definitive answer but expressed his satisfaction with the creative query.
He stated, “The fact that you even asked that makes me happy, and that the term has ignited your imagination to even ask that question.”
Feige not giving a proper answer to the theory keeps the possibilities of other potential candidates to be Earth-616’s anchor being, despite Tony Stark making the biggest sacrifice to save the universe.
The notion of anchor beings played a pivotal role in the plot of Deadpool & Wolverine. As explained by Matthew Macfadyen’s Mr. Paradox in the movie, an anchor being “is an entity of such vital importance that when they die, their whole world slowly withers out of existence.”
As such, the film follows the events of Logan (2017), which saw the disheartening demise of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. In Deadpool & Wolverine, it is revealed that Logan was, in fact, the anchor being of Wade Wilson’s Earth-10005. Following his death, Earth-10005 begins to head towards extinction, kicking off the events of the movie.
