Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s superhero film has crossed a major milestone at the global box office as it surpassed $1 billion on Sunday. The movie that is earning praise for bringing Marvel’s A-game back is reaching new heights, shattering all kinds of box office records. Now part of the billion-dollar club, Deadpool & Wolverine is close to becoming the biggest R-rated movie, and will not slow down any time soon.
The multiverse adventure, Deadpool & Wolverine, brought the much-awaited combo of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman on screen for the first time. The movie with the biggest R-rated opening ever, earning $444.1 million across the globe in the first weekend, has now minted close to $1.029 billion worldwide at the box office after the third weekend.
It only took 19 days to enter the esteemed Billion Dollar club, becoming the fourth fastest movie to achieve the feat. Additionally, the movie has taken the second spot among highest-grossing R-rated movies, exceeding Christopher Nolan’s Oscar-winning saga Oppenheimer (2023), which made around $975 million. Having gone through just three weekends, it’s on its way to becoming the biggest R-rated film of all time.
Not only has Deadpool & Wolverine made a billion dollars at the ticket counter, but it has also inched closer to taking down 2019’s Joker, which is the current highest-grossing R-rated movie title holder globally.
It has already beaten The Passion of Christ ($370 million) to secure the title domestically, currently standing at $494 million. Now, it’s set to beat Joker, which made $1.07 billion worldwide, by the next weekend.
