Sony has started to deploy PS5 system update 24.04-09.40.00, allowing players to start or join Discord voice chat directly from their PS5 console.
According to the official blog post on the PS Blog, the new firmware will be rolled out over the coming weeks, starting for PS5 owners in Japan and Asia, followed by those in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, the Middle East, and the US. We can confirm, however, that the new system update has already been rolled out in Europe.
Support for Discord was already available on Sony's console, but this latest update makes it easier for players to access voice chat by allowing direct access to voice chat from the PS5 console. As such, players will no longer have to rely on using applications or Discord PC to start or join Discord voice chat.
To start, select the Discord tab in Game Base within the PS5 Control Center and choose the Discord server or DM group you’d like to join. Then, select your preferred voice channel. This will reveal more details, such as who is already in the channel chatting. You’ll also receive a PS5 console notification when another Discord user calls you, allowing you to join right away.
In addition to making access to Discord easier, PS5 system update 24.04-09.40.00 also allows PS5 child accounts to link and add third-party services as well as apps for the PSN account. Also, the new firmware version includes improvements the device software for the PULSE Elite wireless headset, PULSE Explore wireless earbuds, and PlayStation Link USB adapter.
As always with Sony's system updates, this new one once again further improves the PS5's system software performance and stability.
