After highlighting the success of Helldivers 2, which sold 12 million units as of May 5th, Sony is looking forward to two other live service games this year. These include Bungie’s Destiny 2: The Final Shape, out on June 4th, and Firewalk Studios’ Concord, which is still launching in 2024.
The latter is interesting because neither Sony nor Firewalk have revealed any gameplay for the PvP multiplayer title since its announcement. Officially, it’s coming to PS5 and PC, sporting “a whole universe of vibrant worlds” and “a rich cast of colorful characters,” per game director Ryan Ellis.
However, reports from renowned leaker billbil-kun claim that it’s “heavily inspired” by Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy (the franchise, not the video game). Sony allegedly has a full reveal planned, detailing the playable roster and showcasing gameplay footage. It sounds like another announcement that could arrive with the rumored PlayStation Showcase.
Sony has scaled back its live-service ambitions over the past several months, cancelling The Last of Us standalone multiplayer game, SIE London’s fantasy title and a rumored Twisted Metal game. Its continued support of Concord is even more interesting in that regard – hopefully, we’ll see what the fuss is about soon. Stay tuned in the meantime.
