While is expected to have several multiversal characters, Inhumans’ Black Bolt, played by Anson Mount, may not be one of them. The actor recently responded to a rumor about his potential return in the upcoming Avengers crossover event and set the record straight.
Despite the short lifespan of the Inhumans series, Anson Mount made a surprise cameo in the MCU’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. However, due to the short length of his appearance, he didn’t get to showcase his full potential as Black Bolt.
However, a rumor posted on X (previously Twitter) by the Marvel Updates handle suggested he would be brought back in Avengers: Secret Wars. The Hell on Wheels star then quickly discredited it in his own X post, implying that he never signed a contract with Marvel.
This is so interesting. Please tell us more about this contract I apparently signed in my sleep. I’m so curious to hear all the juicy details from a feed that is clearly not a click-farm. https://t.co/gDj2XIzzkT
Despite his savage remarks in the X post, the 51-year-old talked about his potential to be back last year. When asked by RadioTimes.com, he said:
“If the answer was yes I wouldn’t be able to tell you. But the answer is no, so I can. I’ve had some informal conversations with the powers [at] Marvel and it’s a conversation, but they’ve got their current phase that they need to do.”
But he added that if given the opportunity, he “would love to jump back into the cowl and do it again,” as he loves “Black Bolt as a character.”
The future of Black Bolt and other Inhumans remains uncertain in the MCU. None of them are confirmed to appear in the near future as Marvel is currently focused on Deadpool & Wolverine, Captain America: Brave New World, the Thunderbolts movie, The Fantastic Four, and Blade before Avengers 5 and Avengers: Secret Wars.
Meanwhile, Mount is set to return as Captain Pike in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 4, reportedly arriving in 2025.
