THQ Nordic has partially announced the line up of games that they’re taking to Gamescom 2024 in August, with three previously revealed projects and two mysterious unannounced games that they’re teasing us with.
Thos two secret games will be announced during the THQ Nordic Digital Showcase 2024 on 2nd August, but will then all will be playable at Gamescom, which runs from 21st to 25th August. They’ll be found in Hall 7.1.
The five games are:
Any guesses? For Unannounced Game #2, I’ve had a look back through THQ Nordic’s back catalogue and The Valiant and The Dwarves would both fit the letter counts. Unless it’s a brand new property, I’d put money on The Dwarves: Something of Something.
For the rest, Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed is a remaster of the 2010 Wii game, directed by the legendary Warren Spector, producer of Wing Commander, Deus Ex, and System Shock. The game follows Mickey as he breaks in to a world of “forgotten things”, concept art and animations for cartoons that never made it to the screen. The levels are loosely a based on locations at the Disneyland theme park, and Mickey will be tormented by Shadow Blot, a creature he created but based on the Phantom Blot, an antagonist to Mickey his original comic strips.
Gothic Remake is far more ambitious. This remake of the cult classic fantasy action RPG was greenlit off the back of some canny marketing by THQ Nordic, first commissioning a playable teaser that was made and released in 2019 to show what a Gothic remake might be able to offer, and then gathering what ended up being “unambiguous feedback” from fans. Off the back of this, they founded Alkimia Interactive in Barcelona specifically for the remake, and they’ve been plugging away at it ever since. We’ve had occasional check-ins with the game since then, but a first playable public demo is an exciting milestone.
