Marc Whitten is going to be leaving engine giant Unity later this year.
That's according to an 8K filing with the SEC, which says that he will be vacating his position as chief product and technology officer on June 1st, but won't actually be leaving the company until the end of 2024.
No reason has been given for his departure. Whitten will walking away with as much as $814,801 in benefits on his resignation date.
Whitten joined Unity in February 2021 as SVP and GM of the company's Create division, which is focused on its game engine. Two years later, he was promoted to the president of this arm.
Prior to that, he spent over 17 years at Microsoft, eventually working his way up to CVP and chief product officer at Xbox, helping to build and lead the company's Xbox and Xbox Live businesses. He left in 2014 for audio specialist Sonos before moving to Amazon to work as VP of entertainment devices and services after two years.
Whitten's departure from Unity comes after a rather tumultuous year for the engine giant. The company has courted controversy with its new generative AI features, as well as introducing the now-infamous Runtime Fee.
