Probably the largest publisher of admittedly niche strategy games in the industry, Paradox Interactive has acquired all shares in Bulgarian developer Haemimont Games, perhaps best known as the developer of Tropico 5 and, more recently, the revival of the mercenary tactical series with Jagged Alliance 3.
In a press release, Paradox CEO Frederik Wester welcomed Haemimont Games, which will become a wholly-owned subsidiary but retain its current leadership and development teams, and revealed that the studio currently has a new IP in the works:
«We are delighted to welcome Haemimont Games to Paradox! They bring a tight-knit team with long experience in developing management games with many well received projects in their portfolio. Moreover, they have a strong creative streak, technology developed for their niche, a new IP in development and a strong culture that fits Paradox’s working style. We have strong faith in their team and leadership, and our main focus now is ensuring they can continue creating great games under new ownership.»
This news comes at an interesting time for this scribe, who just fired up a fresh game of JA3 and loves it. As is so often the case, the turn-based tactical game of mercenary management is in a much better place than when we reviewed it back in 2023; it's well worth checking out if you're interested. While we'd love to see another entry in the series someday, we'll be excited to see what Haemimont can achieve with Paradox's backing.
