Years after its initial announcement, Nightdive Studios’ System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition is due to receive a release date at the Future Games Show Spring Showcase on March 20th. The developer also confirmed that the title has been renamed to System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster.
Considering the original, developed by Irrational Games and Looking Glass Studios, launched in August 1999, the remaster could arrive this year. It’s being developed for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.
Nightdive is no stranger to the franchise – following System Shock: Enhanced Edition, it remade the classic in 2023 to significant praise. The 25th Anniversary Edition won’t feature as extensive an overhaul to the visuals and gameplay, but it will run in 4K/120 FPS and Ultrawide screen support. It will also update the cutscenes and include numerous fan mods (including high-resolution textures).
Stay tuned for more details and updates. Check out our review for System Shock remake in the meantime.
