Ten years after revealing No Man’s Sky at a Geoff Keighley-hosted video game awards show, Spike’s VGX Awards, Hello Games unveiled something new: Light No Fire, an original fantasy game in which players will explore an Earth-sized planet in an experience that the studio says will marry the depth of a role-playing game with the freedom of a survival sandbox game.
Like the procedurally generated galaxy of No Man’s Sky, Light No Fire’s giant, explorable planet will be procedural. Hello Games boasts that players will adventure through a “truly open world, with no boundaries [and] at a scale never attempted before.” And like No Man’s Sky, Hello Games’ new adventure will be playable in multiplayer.
Light No Fire’s debut trailer, revealed at The Game Awards on Thursday, shows players exploring their planet on foot and on the backs of dragons. There are massive mountains to scale and floating islands to visit. Fantastical flora and fauna populate the world. Hello Games promises ample lore, mystery, and a fight for survival on its lush, procedural planet. All of it will be informed by classic fantasy, developers say.
Hello Games’ Sean Murray says Light No Fire has been in development for the past five years by a small team. It did not announce a release window or platforms.
