Japanese singer and actress was found dead in her home in Tokyo on Friday, with her team confirming that the star has passed away at the age of 54.
Nakayama’s team has confirmed the unfortunate news that she has passed away. A statement notes that the incident was “sudden” and that they are equally shocked by the news.
“We are deeply sorry to have to suddenly announce this to all the people involved who have always looked after her and to all the fans who have supported her,” reads a statement posted to the star’s website on Friday. “But this incident was so sudden that we, too, are shocked and saddened. We are currently investigating the cause of death and other details.”
A separate report from the BBC notes that Nakayama was found in her bathtub after she didn’t show up to work. An acquaintance called the paramedics, who found her and pronounced her dead at the scene. Ahead of the incident, Nakayama had been set to perform at a Christmas concert in Osaka this week, but canceled due to health reasons.
