Blue Protocol will sort of live on in a new game, Star Resonance, which is set in the same universe and has some of the same devs on the project. This undertaking is by development studio Bokura, which is owned by Tencent. There's a new trailer announcing the game, as well as info about the development, including the first Chinese closed beta test.
Bandai Namco’s MMORPG, which will shut down in Japan next month (and whose global launch was canceled) will be the basis for Star Resonance, but expect a lot of things to be reworked. It’s still set in the world of Regnas, according to a report from Automaton, but we can expect significant redesigns, reworked gameplay, and changes to the story. Still, there seem to be links to a previously announced in the works Blue Protocol spinoff game. This seems to be at the heart of Star Resonance, just all rebranded since Bandai Namco’s MMO is about to go offline (and the company itself is being dissolved).
Tencent had been working with Team Blue Sky, which was the internal name for the Blue Protocol team, on a mobiile spinoff, so Star Resonance looks likely to be that game. It will launch on PC and mobile with support for cross-play.
In addition to the new trailer, there is an announcement from the developer about a new Chinese playtest that is currently open for signups.
Via Google Translate: Dear adventurer, welcome to Regnas. The new different world adventure MMO «Star Resonance» is now open for reservations! Let us enter Regnas together, resonate with beauty, and start a fantasy adventure~!” Followed by sign up dates from December 6th through December 19th. The test is only for Chinese players, and there's no word at all whether or not Tencent will be looking to launch this outside of China at all. There isn’t even a Chinese launch window, but keep an eye on this if you were looking forward to Blue Protocol.
