Larian Studios is preparing to release Baldur’s Gate 3 on PC on Thursday. The team is answering some questions, thanking the community for their support, and revealing details on Twitch Drops and other things to know for launch.
Baldur's Gate 3 is going to be massive. From everything the team has revealed so far, that looks to be the case. That in mind, one of the important questions that they've answered today is when we might expect a preload time for the game.
There will be no preload available, so if you're looking to play on launch day, be prepared to deal with high demand. The download is approximately 122 GB. No pre-load has to do with the fact that Baldur's Gate 3 is still an early access game on Steam, and as such, still playable by lots of people who supported development. They may even be playing right now.
“Unfortunately we’re unable to make Baldur’s Gate 3 available for pre-load — Steam doesn’t support pre-load for Early Access titles because switching to pre-load would break the game for people currently playing Early Access.”
The team does recommend deleting save files before the August 3rd launch. Not only have they made changes to the early part of the game, but they advise that deleting all Early Access saves should avoid unintended file conflicts after launch. This also goes for any mods you may have installed, making sure they don't automatically download. essentially, you'll want to start completely clean when the final game is out.
Twitch Drops are on the way, with the Camp Clothing set, a purple assortment of gear, available for watching two hours of BG3 streams from August 3-17th.
Other things to know include the PC unlock times, which range from 3 AM August 4th in New Zealand, 11 AM on
