Playing through Baldur’s Gate 3 solo is obviously going to be how a large proportion of the playerbase will experience the game, but as was the case with Divinity: Original Sin 2, Larian Studios’ upcoming RPG will also place a huge emphasis on co-op, for those who want to play through the game that way. But will it be possible to play with friends who’re playing the game on a different platform?
While cross-play multiplayer won’t be supported in Baldur’s Gate 3 at launch, Larian has said that it’s something it might look into adding after the game has released. Speaking in a recent interview with Wccftech, when asked about cross-play, the developer said, “We’re shipping BG3 with cross-saves between PC and PS5, and we’ll see about cross-play post-launch.”
Divinity: Original Sin 2 had limited cross-play support, with only PC, Mac, and iPad supporting the feature, so it remains to be seen whether Baldur’s Gate 3 will also end up doing something similar. Of course, the fact that cross-saves between platformers are supported right out the gate is definitely a positive.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is due out for PC on August 3. Check out its global release timings through here. A PS5 version launches on September 6, and though the development of Xbox Series X/S versions is facing technical difficulties, Larian is still hoping for a 2023 release.
