Baldur’s Gate 3 had a huge launch on PC, and today, Larian Studios is shedding some light on a slew of player stats from launch weekend. With peak concurrent player records currently standing at about 815,000, there's been a lot of stuff happening. In fact, the combined playtime over launch weekend topped over 1,225 years –10 million hours.
The latest community update goes deep into player choices, fun tidbits, and some very harsh mistakes. More than 93% of players chose to roll a custom character, while some chose an Origin character, with Gale being the number one choice. If you wondered what classes people are playing, the five most popular are Paladin, Sorcerer, Warlock, Rogue, and Bard. As far as race choices, Half Elf tops the list, with Human second, followed by Elf, Dragonborn, and Tiefling.
Many of us know how long it might take to make just that perfect character. As such, 10% of custom characters took more than an hour to create. Everyone spent 88 years of time in character creation.
Once everyone got out of character creation, how did things go? Well, 368 players finished the game (somehow!) during opening weekend. Some fun stats include 12% of player deaths caused by friendly fire, Scratch the dog got over 750,000 pets during opening weekend, and people spoke to over 1,400,000 corpses. On the romance front, in just the opening weekend nearly 100,000 players were rejected by Astarion. Most have romanced Shadowheart or Gale. Gale is, in fact, the seventh cause of death for players. A hot romance indeed.
