Mortal Kombat fans will know that NetherRealm has been trying to get Jean-Claude Van Damme in an MK game foir quite some time, ever since the series first launched way back in the 90s in fact. Mortal Kombat 1 will finally achieve that ambitious goal thanks to its Van Damme DLC skin for Johnny Cage, which we've now been given our first look at in a new interview with series creator Ed Boon.
Speaking with Sean Evans in the latest episode of Hot Ones - ashow which sees interviewees each chicken wings with gradually increasing spice levels - Ed Boon talks a little bit about what it took to bring Van Damme to the series and shows off a brief bit of footage of the skin in action. When I say brief, I mean brief too, as all we get is a short clip of a younger Van Damme flipping off Johnny Cage with Sonya Blade stood beside him.

Speaking on Van Damme's inclusion in Mortal Kombat , Boon states that it's a "full circle moment", given that he originally wanted to make a Van Damme arcade game before coming up with Mortal Kombat.
"We actually wanted to see the words ‘Van Damme’. Bloodsport was big, and so was Universal Soldier, I think," says Boon. "So we called his people, and we were like ‘we want to make a game based on Van Damme’, and I don’t know if he declined or just never got to him or something like that."
"But this is, you know, a couple of 20-something-year-old kids who wanted make a video game – I could see how Van Damme would go ‘no, we’re not doing this’.
