The latest trailer for Mortal Kombat 1 has finally confirmed that the "Toasty!" easter egg that can be found in nearly every game in the series is back once more.
Mortal Kombat is known for a great number of things - the rivalry between Scorpion and Sub-Zero, the brutal finishing moves, and the whacky minigames and weird Krypt rewards, just to name a few. One of the things that fans love the most about the series, however, is its many, many easter eggs, from Error Macros to the origin of Noob Saibot's name.

There are a lot of long-running jokes in the series but perhaps one of the longest-running of them all is the "Toasty!" easter egg, which originated in Mortal Kombat 2. In that game, if the player managed to pull off an uppercut, there was a chance that Dan Forden, Mortal Kombat's sound designer at the time, would pop up in the corner and shout "Toasty!" in a high-pitched voice.
The easter egg has appeared in numerous Mortal Kombat games since, either being referenced through the name of special moves (usually Scorpion's, since they often involve fire) or through the same sound and picture of Forden popping up. Up until now, we'd heard nothing about the Toasty easter egg making an appearance in Mortal Kombat 1, but the latest trailer for the game has thankfully shown us that it's back in action.
As pointed out by Twitter user WeBeenCroft, the iconic "Toasty!" sound effect can actually be heard during Johnny Cage's second Fatality, which was shown off during the Jean-Claude Van Damme reveal trailer. After the opponent is kicked through the car's window and split in half, Johnny presses a button to start the car's nitro boost.
