Between Cassette Beasts, Temtem, Coromon, the upcoming Moonstone Island, and possibly some others, we’re starting to see a level of monster-collecting games not seen since the early 2000s, when the initial Pokémon boom was in full swing. And it looks like we have yet another new contender entering the ring, as Good Shepherd has revealed Dicefolk, a monster-collecting collaboration between develops Leap Studios and Tiny Ghoul. As hinted by the game’s title, though, there’s a notable twist when it comes to gameplay for this one, as seen in the announcement trailer below.
The game sees you playing as one of the titular Dicefolk, a being able to use dice-shaped artifacts in order to command magical creatures known as chimeras that are summoned from grimoires. In order to stop some particularly nasty chimeras, though, you’ll have to collect and assemble the perfect squad of creatures to battle them with, embarking on a roguelike journey with them. There, you’ll have to choose the faces of your dice and manage both sides of the battle in some unique combat, all while also collecting talismans along the way to unlock more of the story. Dicefolk arrives later this year for the PC, and should hopefully be another great entry into the monster-collecting subgenre.
