Humble Bundle is back with one of its greatest values yet – the Must-Play Metroidvania Bundle. Strangely for a Humble Bundle, there aren’t multiple tiers – but the advantage of that is that it’s just one large bundle instead of a few lesser options. Here, $15 gets you Hollow Knight, Rain World, Blasphemous, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, Lost Ruins, Lone Fungus, and Haiku the Robot. In addition, there is a 20% off coupon for Rain World’s Downpour DLC and a 50% off coupon on Zapling Bygone. While the inclusion of coupons instead of games is a bit of a disappointment in the case of the DLC and Zapling Bygone, there are some absolute must-plays in this bundle.
Having played a few of the titles offered up, it’s a fantastic value for anyone into action-platforming. Hollow Knight is a dark, but beautiful sword-slashing adventure with a sense of both isolation and a sense of community due to NPCs lurking about. Blasphemous is a blend of gothic horror, smooth animation that rivals most games in the sub-genre, and a level of graphic violence in its cinematics and visceral combat. Every attack you land feels like its own accomplishment and while Metroidvanias as a whole can run the gamut of difficulty, this is one of the tougher ones on the market – but also one of the most fun once you get a feel for its combo systems and defensive skills in order to minimize damage taken.
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is my favorite of the three included titles that I’ve played and offers up an Igavania that wears its Castlevania: Symphony of the Night influences on its sleeve while still delivering memories all its own. Miriam can slice and dice her way through an evil castle, but things like flipping the castle are now just commonplace
