Disney Dreamlight Valley may lack the polish of Animal Crossing, but it has one advantage on Nintendo’s iconic slice of life series: it’s guaranteed to get updated for as long as developer Gameloft considers it viable to do so. Considering the title’s popularity, that commitment’s certainly going to continue through 2023, and now we have a content roadmap that confirms what we have to look forward to.
Things will get underway imminently in early June, with the release’s “biggest story update yet”. This new plot will involve the Fairy Godmother, as was previously teased, and will help to “unveil the secret to The Forgetting”. We’ll probably learn a lot more about this soon, but until then, a second summer update will include the addition of Vanellope from Wreck-It Ralph.
Perhaps crucially, September will see the arrival of Belle from Beauty and the Beast, as a portal to a new realm welcomes “new friends along with other surprises”. Then in late 2023, there’s promise of a new story chapter, even more characters, multiplayer, and – enticingly – a new Royal Tool, which we suspect will unlock fresh gameplay opportunities. Of course, all of this will unfold alongside new Star Paths and cosmetic content, so there’s a ton to look forward to here.
We really like Disney Dreamlight Valley. It’s surprising to us that more developers haven’t attempted to emulate Animal Crossing, but this game feels like the perfect storm, as we’d argue living next door to the Little Mermaid is a step above a random rhinoceros who likes to work out. The roadmap looks rock solid too, so we’re excited to continue expanding our village through into 2024 and beyond.
