After making splash onto the scene with Sportsfriends in 2014, Danish developers Die Gute Fabrik followed it up five years later with 2019’s Mutazione, an adventure game set in unique world that was released to much acclaim. And now they return yet again with their next game, Saltsea Chronicles, which once again again sees them returning to the story-driven adventure genre. Debuted during the Day of the Devs Summer Game Fest showcase, the game made quite a splash as the closer to the whole event, and you can check out its reveal trailer below.
Set in a flooded world, the game follows a band of misfits led by one Maja as they set out to search for their missing captain, stealing their impounded ship and exploring several islands along the way, choosing which crew members to send out on expeditions. Who you choose and how they interact with the inhabitants of each island has an impact on everyone, as as the de facto captain, Maja also has to resolve tensions among the crew, develop their relationships, recruit more people, or just spend time with card games…basically, the game appears to be set up to accommodate whatever level of depth you’d like to tackle. Of course, you can also replay any chapters in order to try for different outcomes, eventually uncovering the potential mystery behind your friend’s disappearance…if a mystery even exists.
Saltsea Chronicles will be headed to PC, PS5, and Switch later this year, with a demo of the game to playable during the upcoming Steam Next Fest, allowing players to dip their toes into these intriguing waters, so make sure to check it out.
