Many fans loved ‘s efforts as Superman and would love to see him donning the red cape again. Unfortunately, it seems Clark Kent isn’t in Cavill’s future anymore. But why did Cavill leave the role of Superman and which actor is replacing him? Here’s what you need to know.
The Cavill-DC Studios situation held court for many months. On the one hand, Cavill is a fan-favorite actor appreciated for his portrayal of Superman since his first appearance in 2013’s Man of Steel, a role he reprised in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and both Justice League editions. On the other, DC Studios wanted a younger actor for the James Gunn-led DC Universe relaunch. Apparently, Cavill didn’t fit Gunn’s plans. From the outside, it looks more like DC Studios didn’t want Cavill as Clark Kent anymore than Cavill leaving the role of Superman on his own.
When Cavill made a cameo as Superman in the Black Adam post-credit scene, it appeared the two parties reached an agreement. Eventually, many things Dwayne Johnson said while promoting the 2022 movie didn’t materialize, including Cavill’s return as Kal-El. The recently released The Flash movie changed the in-storyline fate of Cavill’s Superman, who never made it to Earth due to General Zod, dying as a young child. It’s unclear whether Barry Allen reversed the effect of his actions by the end of the movie.
According to the latest news, 29-year-old David Corenswet (Pearl, The Politician) will now portray the Man of Steel in Gunn’s upcoming Superman: Legacy.
