James Gunn has added Edi Gathegi, Isabela Merced, and regular Nathan Fillion as Mr. Terrific, Hawkgirl, and Guy Gardner respectively to Superman Legacy's cast, Vanity Fair reports. They join David Corenswet, who will play the new DC Studios Superman, and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.
Fillion's Gardner will be the first official live-action debut of the character, who was introduced back in Green Lantern #59, as the first replacement for Hal Jordan. The first version was used in a pilot for a Justice League show in the late '90s that resembled more of the Kyle Rayner Green Lantern, but with the team based on the Justice League of the 1980s.
Finn Wittrock was originally cast as Gardner in HBO's Green Lantern series, but that was retooled to spotlight John Stewart. Gardner is famously known for his red bowl haircut, which Vanity Fair confirms will be part of Fillion's look in the new movie.
Another alum of comic book movies is Gathegi, Darwin in Matthew Vaugh's X-Men: First Class. He will take on the role of Michael Holt, the second Mister Terrific. Holt is one of the world's most brilliant inventors, and constantly surrounded by his orbiting T-Sphere weapons he designed. He is a famous member of the Justice Society and field leader.
As for Merced, the Sicario: Day of the Soldado will be playing Hawkgirl. There have been many iterations of Hawkgirl, much like there have been of Hawkman, over the years. However, all of them are known for wielding melee weapons such as swords, spears, and maces.
Superman Legacy is the story of a younger Superman and Clark Kent trying to find himself in the world in the early days of his superhero career.
Superman Legacy arrives in theaters on July 11, 2025
